sky diving

I've always wanted to go sky diving, but I've never had the nerve. There is something oddly thrilling about jumping out of an airplane and soaring thousands of miles above the ground. Like most people, I've never gone sky diving, and I probably never will. While I'm fully aware that sky diving accidents are rare, and many people are perfectly fine after the experience, I can't help but focus on the "what-if's."

What if the parachute has a defect and I can't pull the string?

What if I draw a blank in mid-air and I can't remember the training?

What if I hit the ground at 70-miles per hour?

The fears I have about sky diving are the same fears that have stood in my way of bungee jumping, white water rafting, mountain climbing, and so forth. While the experiences seem fascinating, I'm more interested with keeping my feet on dry land. This way, I'm in controlled (somewhat). Plus, I avoid the obvious like accidents, injury - death.

Although I'll never jump from an airplane, I applaud anyone brave enough to take the plunge.
