Just like everyone has a different ideal vacation not everyone's idea of an adventure is the same.   We all push the envelope some time or another and have had an exciting even life threatening experience in some form or the other and can identify with the adrenaline rush.   Those who undertake dangerous sports everyday live for the rush and perhaps it's the risk that makes them feel more alive.   Do they ponder about the risk?   I doubt it.   Chances are they're the individuals that have calculated the risk ahead of time.   What about the thrill seekers who engage in a risky sport for the first time just to try it just once?   How much time do they give to assessing risk?   Not much.   Most thrill seekers with a ‘try everything once attitude' have done little arithmetic on the odds of getting seriously hurt or worse.

There are a certain group of entrepreneurs that take adventure very seriously and risk to the extreme.   They take time away from their businesses to challenge themselves to go beyond their limits.   They would be the ones coming back from an adventure travel trip after parachuting solo for the first time without a lesson or bungee jumping over the Colorado River or catapulting down a waterfall in a kayak.  They deliberately engage in an adventurous yet very dangerous activity to strengthen their character and decision making skills in their professional lives in addition to scaring the living daylights out themselves.   Their objective: to learn to deal with their fear in their professional life, better yet eliminate it altogether. They are usually professionals and business owners that make daily decisions affecting many or handle a great deal money or both.   So would you ever think that some of the most powerful people are out their bungee jumping?

There is something to be said about setting off into uncharted territory for the first time. Travel is good for the soul and if you combine a new activity with challenge you are adding a new dynamic to the vacation.   Merriam- Webster's Collegiate Dictionary's definition of adventure: ‘an undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risks'.

It also says: ‘an exciting remarkable experience'.   So if you go on an adventure, there is nothing more important than bringing along good old common sense.   Don't forget it when you pack for your next adventure travel vacation. Explore something new like white water rafting, sky diving or rock climbing.  It is bound to make you feel more alive.   Find something great you always wanted to do and stay safe while doing it.   Check it out!
