Going on an adventure quest this summer might be a fantastic way to see some sights that you would otherwise not see by car, train, or bus. There are some incredibly beautiful places in the US to see on foot, so if you are physically fit, you might enjoy a backpacking trip in the mountain ranges closest to your home. Of course, you don't need to go as far as the mountains to see some fine scenery, but generally the mountains are cooler than the plains, and when you are on an adventure quest, hiking your way to an awesome destination, staying cool is important. Fall and spring are good times of year to take advantage of flat lands that are lower in elevation, and the weather in the mountains is less stable during these transition seasons than it is in the summer. Hiking in a snow storm is not so much fun, and it adds quite a level of difficulty to an adventure quest. Even so, when hiking in the summer in the mountains, bring along at least a sweater-thunderstorms can produce some cold rain or hail, and night temperatures often drop below 50. |
