There are many ways to push yourself to the limit but conquering Mount Everest is an accomplishment few thrill seekers are able to add to their belt. There is a group of ingenious Himalayans called the Sherpas that have the ability to climb Mount Everest as if it was second nature. Well it is second nature to them; they are behind 99 percent of the expeditions that set out to conquer Mount Everest. If you are familiar with Everest: Beyond the Limit then you have seen the happy go lucky Sherpas doing what they were born to do.
The Sherpas are a stout group of ingenious people who are not affected by high altitude as the normal man is, they have extreme endurance, unrivaled lung capacity and an indifference to below zero temperatures. They are able to run up and down the mountain setting lines, investigating conditions and being the lifeline to any struggling climber. The Sherpas think of Mount Everest as a Holy place. Before western influence, Sherpas never climbed Mount Everest entirely for religious reasons. They now climb to help expeditionary quests but not without partaking in rituals and offerings to Mount Everest before the ascent. |
