mount everestOne of my biggest fascinations is with people who attempt to climb Mount Everest. I honestly take my hat off to those who even try and fail. It has to be an incredible accomplishment to even think one is capable of an ascent up any part of Mount Everest. I've read books about it and watched almost all the movies about going up the summit of Mount Everest.

The highest I've ever hiked is 12,500 feet and that was a struggle. We started at 8,000 feet, and for a day hike, that's quite a bit of elevation gain for someone who lives at 1,500 feet. I remember how it was like lifting concrete blocks for legs as we approached the summit. I can only imagine what it would be like to climb Mount Everest. One of the biggest challenges for me if I were ever to try climbing this mountain would be the weeks of living at the base camp before summiting, although every day would be a challenge in those freezing temperatures and all that gear on. I know I'll never get to Mount Everest, but I have nothing but the highest regard for those who even attempt it.
